Posted by Chris A. Otto in Press ReleasesHuntsville, AL (September 21, 2009) – Halo Monitoring, Inc. , makers of wireless healthcare technology, will present at the American Society on Aging (ASA) 2009 East Coast Conference on Aging today in Philadelphia. Company cofounder and CEO, Chris A. Otto, will be speaking during a panel presentation on “Technologies that Support Aging in Place”. The panel will be hosted by Laurie Orlov of Aging in Place Technology Watch.
During his presentation, Mr. Otto will present Halo Monitoring’s solutions that address four common issues affecting aging seniors and professional caregivers:
1) Seniors at high risk for falls, living independently in their own homes.
2) Seniors at high risk for falls, under the care of a professional geriatric care specialist.
3) Chronic Disease Management in an ambulatory setting – utilizing the myHalo Gateway as a medical hub in a senior’s home for remote health monitoring applications.
4) Fall management in Assisted Living Facilities; evidence based transfers and fall risk management techniques.
Halo Monitoring’s product, myHalo, is a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) and is the most advanced personal health monitoring and alert system currently available for seniors; it immediately detects when the senior user falls and automatically transmits the alert to casual or professional caregivers, or to Emergency Medical Services (EMS). It is the only medical alert system of its kind performing automatic fall detection.
Mr. Otto cofounded Halo Monitoring after examining the state of tools available for his own mother who was providing care for his grandmother. Mr. Otto was a pioneer in wireless sensor networks for ambulatory health monitoring; published a number of related articles in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings; as well as published a Master’s thesis on this subject. His work has been recognized as a leading effort in the field of Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) for ambulatory health monitoring. He holds two issued patents and nine pending patents in the fields of ambulatory health monitoring, wireless networks, data communications, and human fall detection. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Alabama in Huntsville.
