I take care of both my parents in a very large house. Since I can not be in two places at once and also sometimes have to go out in the yard to work, what I need is some kind of a wireless call button that they can manually “beep” me if I am needed as well as an “automatic fall detection device” that will alert ME, not some call center, if they get up at night and fall going to the bathroom or something. That way I could manage the household duties and get a little sleep at night. Why hasn’t someone invented this yet? As the “Boomers” get older and more and more in-home-care becomes necessary, this device will make someone a lot of money. Oh, and it should have the ability to “call forward” to a call center in the event the care-giver has to go do a little shopping or something. If you really wanted to make it “the best product out there” you would also include a household GPS so the caregiver could always tell where the patient is and if they have wandered out of certain boundaries. I know we have the technology as something similar is used with house arrest. BTW my father is deaf, incontinent, and physically unstable due to a stroke and severe arthritis. My mother is blind and suffers from 4th stage Alzheimer’s. Sometimes, a caregiver has multiple challenges that need solutions.
God Bless whoever reads this and does something about it.
Your “myHalo” system sounds interesting and I do like your 10 questions. I have 2 posts about alarm pendants, including questions on my site http://helpparentsagewell.com and intend to add your product. That said, I want to second Karin’s suggestions above…especially about the “beep” button. I know there are simple systems “professional” caregivers use. in addition to baby monitors, there’s a small doorbell-ring-type inexpensive product (carried in a pocket) so caregivers can be called from within a certain distance. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles Karin would like–which would certainly be great. But it’s an available start if you could add something similar.
